John Jordan of Evolution Home Design has been proudly serving Bend and the Central Oregon area since 1991, taking great pride in providing you with top level custom home design, house plans and services. John has an accredited Bachelor of Architecture degree from Iowa State University and has over 30 years of experience in the Architectural / Home Design / Remodel business.

Evolution Home Design offers a complete range of home design and plan services and has both the technical expertise as well as the experience to know how to handle all jobs, big or small. Evolution Home Design is a program ally with the energy trust of Oregon, implementing green and sustainable building practices of various degrees.

Custom Homes

All Evolution Home Design (EHD) Custom House Plans are started from scratch and are tailored for each home owner’s needs and visions. “I don’t believe in re-using house plans. I believe that each home should be designed for the individuals that live in the house. Each home deserves to be appropriate for its location and integrated into the landscape, while taking advantage of sunlight exposure as well as any amenities the building site offers.” Whether you desire a Craftsman home, Modern style home, or any style in between, EHD can provide your desired home style.

Timber Frame Homes

Timber Frame construction is where large exposed timber posts and beams are assembled in a dramatic “old world” fashion. Timber Frames are typically held together by joinery, wood pegs, and minimal metal hardware, much like they have been built for centuries. Many new construction technologies, that are available today, help contribute to the energy efficient design and construction of modern timber frame structures. Living in a Timber Frame home is much like living within fine wood furniture.

Additions and Remodels

Over one half of the projects designed by EHD are Additions and Remodels. “It is my goal to make all additions appear as they were part of the original home construction.” Existing structures are analyzed during the design process to most efficiently take advantage of and integrate with the existing structure.

Passive Solar Homes

If your site offers a sky free from physical obstructions, why not take advantage of the free energy the sun provides? Passive solar houses are based on the simple principal of solar radiation. Let the sun in when it is shining and release the heat later in the evening when it is chilly outside. Correctly sized overhangs and strategically placed windows will also help provide passive cooling to your home in the summer time.

Sun Rooms and Additions

Sun Room additions are a great way to create a “semi-outdoor” living space. With correct solar orientation and thermal mass, a Sun Room addition can help provide additional heating to an existing house.

Solar Panels and Photovoltaic (PV) Systems

Correct roof orientation and Photovoltaic (PV) systems will turn your home’s roof area into a miniature electricity collection plant and spin your electric meter backwards, in turn, reducing your power bills. Many power companies offer programs for PV/solar panel systems. The State of Oregon also offers tax incentive programs. Please contact your local energy provider or solar installer for current programs and incentives offered.

Custom Furniture Design

Wood working has been my passion since an early age. Understanding joinery and how “things go together” is extremely valuable as a home designer. I believe that Home Designers and Architects should be able to build what they draw.

Locks are to be put upon some of his trap-doors and shutters; and a footman will show round future visitors with a bunch of keys at his side.
